Friends, ’tis the Season to be Merry; however, it is so easy to look at our long list, look at our checkbook, look at the calendar – and be anything but merry. We can launch into this wonderful time and so easily become bogged down in our need to perform. We may feel smothered by “others” expectations. All of our feelings of inadequacy leap to be acknowledged. This is a very good time to determine our own journey toward the amazing celebration of Christmas. Our God will help us find the balance and the joy that He intended for His children. Ask Him to direct your steps and to trim your plans so that you can retain your “Merry.” The greatest gift for most of us is caring expressed in meaningful ways. I love the young Virgin Mary’s response when the Angel brought her very unlikely assignment in Luke 1:38, “Behold, the bond slave of the Lord, may it be done to me according to your word.” As we prepare to celebrate her amazing decision to accept her place in God’s plan and move forward, we want our preparation for this lovely significant celebration to be traveled carefully. As we eliminate when possible those things that are not of real significance, we want to do whatever is necessary to take away those things that would steal our “Merry” and focus on giving lots of “Merry” to others.
