Friends, do you know what it means to “murmur and complain”?” It’s those times we keep from saying out loud what we are thinking, but we are certainly active at saying our opinion “under our breath” and it comes out as murmuring and complaining! I laughed to find it marked in dark ink in my seldom used King James Version of the scriptures. The New American Standard version says, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing.” We all know those who never express a disagreement openly and kindly but instead choose to grumble, complain and yes, murmur behind the scenes. Murmuring is a great way to spoil the atmosphere without really making any positive changes. Once we’ve made the decision to go along with an idea or project it’s also time to get on board with our words and attitudes. Murmuring and complaining make no positive changes. They very definitely steal the energy and creativity from the atmosphere. This is a great day to turn our input (if needed) from negative to positive. Ask our God to open the eyes of our understanding so that we can see some positive trails from where we are and move toward some good things that may come on the trail. Murmuring is a joy killer and stifling to ideas as well. Philippians 2:14 sets us on the right trail, “Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second guessing allowed. Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in a squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God.” Hoorah! We can be a changemaker and our wonderful God will help us do it!
