The News

There’s lots of reaction to “The News.” Some people avoid it because it might be negative from their point of view and therefore depressing. Others are news junkies – they can’t get enough news and want to absorb it from many resources. Believers must know what is going on in our world so that we can become active participants in the war against the evil one. We want to be a strong cheering section for all the good things God is doing. We try to encourage those who are making a positive difference in our world. We want to learn what is happening so we can use what God has given us to make our own small stand for Him and His ways. It’s absolutely true that much news is sad and depressing. Our culture experiences crazy deviations from God’s ways. Humans hurt one another and turn their backs on good but tough choices. We don’t want to hear it or know about it, but ignorance doesn’t make it go away. As amazing as it may seem, we truly are to be “salt and light” in our world. (Matthew 5:13-14) In order to effectively season our environment we need to be aware of the ingredients and situations that are impacting it. We must be learning about God’s ways so that we can walk in the light of them. We must be willing to graciously “season” our informed comments in our world, so that we help God’s ways to become part of the general conversation. Always remember, no matter the current local or international news, we have “good” news. God’s plan will lift our hearts and hopes for the future and “lighten” even the most troubling headlines. God gives us a great perspective on The News.
