L is for Lukewarm

There is hardly anything to recommend that is “Lukewarm”. Lukewarm coffee, tea, soup, bathwater or praise –all fall short of being satisfying in any way. Lukewarm applause is a sign of little appreciation. Even our God seems to take a very dim view of the Lukewarm condition. He says “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot because you are lukewarm and neither cold or hot I will spit you out of My mouth” Rev. 3:15-16. Paul in Rom. 12:11 urges us “Don’t burn out, keep yourselves fueled and aflame” The Message. What are the things that tend to dampen our fire? Lukewarm friends, a watered down, meant to please everyone message and spiritual and mental laziness all throw water on any Spiritual fervor. Our God and His ways are challenging to the true seeking follower. His challenge to us is far from an invitation to snuggle into life but is rather a call to the front lines wherever we find ourselves. He uses us all. Those with a mild, retiring personality and those with a bold outgoing approach to life-all are needed for the strategy that is directed by God. Lukewarm is not a manifestation of outward responses only, but is a condition of our hearts. We need to ask Him to examine our hearts and if we fall into the Lukewarm category we ask Him to fire us up again. He tells us “The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they might have life and that more abundantly” John 10:10. He is able to fire us up again. Praise God!
