Stubborn

Stubborn is a label we attach to those people who most often cannot be persuaded to change their mind (to our point of view – of course). If they agree with us we consider them strong minded and determined. God says, “All my day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate (stubborn) people.” (Romans10:31) So dear ones, we must all have a strong stubborn streak. We even have a tendency to want to tell our God what to do and when to do it! We resist correction and strongly justify our decisions and actions. We often act like a car stuck in the mud whose driver continues to try to drive forward and only sinks in deeper. Let’s be honest, the only stubborn people who do not drive us crazy are us! A teachable spirit is one that has given up the right to be right. A teachable person will listen to the “teacher” and be willing to learn from them and adjust their thinking and actions accordingly, in order to conduct their lives in a wiser fashion. Stubborn and Faithful must not be confused. Believers must hold fast to the Truth of God’s Word but with a teachable, kind, and gentle attitude. Stubbornness refuses to be taught. God is always at work to “will and to work for His good pleasure” and He is always teaching His followers His way. We must stay open to His teaching and his ways as He leads us to even “greener” pastures. Stubbornness will limit us and a gracious openness to learning will liberate us. Try it–you may like it!
