Drifting

Friends, I know almost nothing about boating, but I do know that if we fail to pay attention to accurate steering we will not end up where we want to go. There is a certain appeal to the idea of cutting the power and just drifting along to see where the current takes us. We get tired of being “responsible, sensible and accountable.” We find some attraction in that free-wheeling, casual approach to life that we see all around us. Unfortunately, even on a calm, sunny day a smart boater never stops checking the wind and the currents because it is very easy to run aground or capsize from inattention. Dear Believers, we have a serious assignment. We have been selected and uniquely chosen for a course that fits God’s plan for our lives. He knows so well the undercurrents and sudden squalls that are part of this life. God wants us to keep a tight grip on the tiller. When we feel weak and unable to stay on course His hand joins ours and we may even tack right into the wind in order to pursue His plan for His purposes. His encouragement and instructions are found in His Word. “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away from it.” (Hebrews 2:1 ) Let the Word of God keep us on His course and enjoy the outing!
