Storage

The need to have “adequate” storage is a high priority for some of us. The strange thing is that the definition of adequate storage changes. We keep adding things to our lives. We hesitate to throw away or give away, so until we can decide, we need more storage. There is a fine line between wise provision for the future and hoarding. Where do we differentiate between true keepsakes and hoarding? How do we recognize an obsessive need to look out for our future when our God has said He has the future in His hands? (Isaiah 41:13) Much of our problem may be because we are hesitant to make decisions. It is easier to “store” it than to decide to give or throw it away. Perhaps it’s time to listen when we’ve been told, “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians4:19) Can we really trust this statement? Do we say, “Thank you God, but in case you have other things to do and forget my needs I’d better look out for myself.” Of course we wouldn’t say that but our actions sometimes send that message to those around us and certainly God notices as well. We need wisdom to discern the distinction between wise provision for our needs and unhealthy worry and hoarding. Adequate storage is a blessing. We need storage places for camping gear and Christmas decorations and true memory keepers, but be wise. Be willing to share and give away to others as you store up “treasures in Heaven.”
