Is this just “one of those days”? You know, a day that seems to go wrong from the very beginning? Probably some of the trouble is our own fault, which makes it even more maddening. When I can offload the problem on everyone else I’m still miserable but somewhat comforted. Generally though, an honest look at the situation shows that a lot of the trouble was my forgetfulness, carelessness, or foolishness. I not only have the problem, but I’m miserable because of my part in the mess. Now let’s say in this particular situation we do feel we had no part in the problem. It can be even more puzzling as we struggle with emotions of “unfair” and “undeserved.” Most of us have experienced a number of both the guilty and not-guilty days. We need to get our sea legs in the midst of the upheaval. Believers have an amazing Helper – the Holy Spirit of God – who is working in us to adjust our internal compass toward the right path for making good use of the situation. God can turn “trouble” into “training.” He can take what was meant for evil and turn it into good. “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result.” (Genesis 50:20 ) “Nevertheless, God” is a proclamation found in older translations of the Bible and is a wonderful declaration that our God is greater than the circumstances of any day, and when we depend on Him we will make it through.
