N is for Nourish

We hardly ever say “I’m going to nourish myself” or “Its time to nourish the baby”. Yet, that is what we mean when we talk about “feeding”. Hopefully we intend the feeding process to be nourishing. If something is nourishing it is intended “to keep or encourage its well-being”. In our culture most of us are eager to avoid physical hunger. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we spend that much time considering whether or not the feeding process actually contribute to our health to our overall wellbeing. Careful gardeners and animal lovers check the labels on purchases to ensure the proper nutrients and growth supplements are included for maximum productivity. However, Believers may be slack on their own spiritual growth index. We may be dragging along on the spiritual impact of a retreat ten years ago. We may lean heavily on a Bible passage that changed our life –way back there sometime. We may pray that our church comes up with stimulating teaching and motivational messages that will boost us on our way. But where is our personal motivation? 2 Tim. 2:15 is a personal challenge “Study to show yourself approved handling accurately the word of truth. While 2 Peter 3:18 says “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”. Our assignment is to put ourselves in the place where nourishment and growth is available. We need to dedicate time and effort to entering God’s classroom- then relax and trust in His provision. We faithfully do our part then we can rely on our God to abundantly do His part to work so that our lives may flourish. It is “God who causes the growth”. I Cor. 3:7. Wishing us all happy nourishing personal gardening.
