We are quick to acknowledge that our God is a good God when we can understand and agree with His actions. But when His actions are difficult to understand, when they do not stop bad things happening to good people—we struggle. We may even inform Him that He needs to keep us informed and actually we need to be in agreement with His plans. It reminds me of most of us when we are students, apprentices, or in training of any significance. So much of the drill, the strain and pressure that is needed to prepare us to move to the next level is difficult. Our God gave us life in a world that is occupied by His enemy. The enemy is always at work to defeat and discourage the people of God. Our God is always at work to keep us in training for the best results for the role especially chosen for us. The coach, teacher who has the greatest love and who can see the ultimate potential in their students is diligent to allow them to experience all that is necessary to bring them to their peak performance. God is always at work doing good things because our God is always good! He always acts from a heart of love. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Our wonderful God is always at work for our well-being. We can count on it. God is Really Good. We can count on His loving purposes in everything and He never leaves us alone through the parts we don’t understand.
